    My usual tasks…
    1. Read my e-mail, review the log reports, etc.
    2. Briefly review the important log files in /var/log
    3. Add any script kiddies, e-mail spammers, or idiots to the iptables firewall, apply the changes.
    4. Run the daily backup scripts
    6. Log off.

Tripwire’s fine if you’re just taking care of one server–not too handy reading all the emails if you’re responsible for a few dozen.
